We are thrilled to be partnering with the team at Ginninderry, to assist them to deliver on their vision to become a sustainable community of "international significance with innovation, diversity and ecological criteria at its core".
The Ginninderry InvertiWall installation, which was unveiled at the development this earlier month (August 2020), is the first of its kind in the ACT.
Straddling the NSW/ACT border, the Ginninderry development, which on completion will be home to around 30,000 residents, is a joint venture between the ACT Government and the NSW land owners, Riverview Developments Pty Ltd. Critical to meeting Canberra's growing housing needs, the development is also designed to cater to Canberra's changing needs as a growing city. The integrated and sustainable development will incorporate schools, shops and sporting facilities, childcare and medical centres as well as nature corridors, parks and productive community food gardens.
With the goal to “mainstream” sustainable urban development practices, and to carefully construct a sustainable community of scale that can be replicated throughout Australia and internationally, Ginninderry has already been awarded a six star Green Star – Communities rating by the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA). This is the highest rating possible under this program and is a first for any community in the ACT and capital region.
Using leading edge technologies to sustainably produce health, fresh produce for the local community, the InvertiWall installation is a natural fit with Ginninderry's aim of showcasing innovative technologies that will benefit local residents and the environment.

The space and water efficient, aesthetically pleasing and easy to operate indoor vertical farming showcase will be used to grow and trial a wide range of crops: from fresh leafy greens for the residents and on-site cafes, to seedlings that will planted in the development's conservation corridors.
With a focus on sustainability, self-sufficiency and resilience, the Ginninderry masterplan has already identified urban food production as an area with great potential to provide the framework for a more self-reliant community to evolve over time and ensure better utilisation of resources. We hope that the Ginninderry InvertiWall is just the start of great things to come. We look forward to growing in the capital and building the relationship with Ginninderry as the development grows.
The unveiling of the Ginninderry InvertiWall installation was attended by representatives from the local farming community and the local high school (both of whom will be involved with the long-term running of the installation), as well as Regional Development Australia (ACT) and InvertiGro investor David Trebeck, who were instrumental in helping us to close this sale.
During our visit to Ginninderry, InvertiGro also had the opportunity to meet with one of Australia's favourite chef's , Paul West of River Cottage fame. Sharing InvertiGro's passion for fresh healthy produce and sustainable urban farming, Paul had the opportunity to sample some InvertiGro produce in Canberra - and we now look forward to continuing the conversation with him.
