feeding the world the smarter way

In addition to growing fresh healthy produce, InvertiGro’s end-to-end solutions have the potential to generate significant economic, social and environmental benefits for the companies, countries and communities we work with.

InvertiGro has the potential to create jobs and revitalise unused spaces, enhance food security and access to healthy fresh produce, reduce food waste and packaging, deliver significant export opportunities and position Australian Agribusiness innovation as world-leading.

sustainable development goals

InvertiGro is founded on, and committed to, our vision to “Feed the World the Smarter Way” - essentially to Grow more with less. With easy to adopt, resource efficient and highly productive growing systems that bring the growing closer to the communities that they feed, we enable businesses (anywhere) to adopt more productive and sustainable agriculture practices, assisting communities, regions and countries to achieve greater food security.

InvertiGro is one of only three Australian agrifood tech innovators selected to participate in the 2020 Singapore Food Bowl, a program designed to fast track new technologies specifically relevant to Singapore’s 30x30 food security agenda to help address the country’s dependence on imports. Other food security related sales discussions are ongoing with potential customer partners in the UAE-based, Morocco, Kazakhstan and Cambodia.

2. Zero Hunger: End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture

Grown without soil and without the need for herbicides or pesticides; free from pests, disease and external contaminants, InvertiGro delivers clean, fresh and nutritious produce; notably leafy greens, soft fruits, vegetables and microherbs that provide many of the vitamins and minerals for good health and well-being.

In addition, our systems have the ability to grow the inputs for many clinical drugs and health supplements in a clean and secure environment.

InvertiGro is also researching the biofortification of produce to be grown in our systems.  Biofortification is the practice of deliberately increasing the content of an essential micronutrient, i.e. vitamins and minerals (including trace elements) in food, to improve the nutritional quality of the food supply and provide a public health benefit with minimal risk to health.

3. Good Health and Well Being: Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages

With water one of the most precious natural resources and with 70% of the world’s water usage used for agriculture, InvertiGro’s is addressing this goal by dramatically reducing the water required to grow (our systems use approximately 3 to 5% of water usage required by traditional agriculture).

As a closed-loop, controlled system that does not use harmful pesticides or herbicides, InvertiGro also reduces harmful run-off into our waterways.

6. Clean Water and Sanitation: Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all

Whilst agriculture is essentially a user of energy, InvertiGro is partnering with a waste-to-energy partner to deliver a fully circular economy model for food waste-to-energy-to-food. This highly innovative model, once proven, could be deployed literally anywhere with people or livestock - who all generate organic waste and all need to be fed.

7 Affordable and Clean Energy: Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all

As a business, InvertiGro currently provides direct employment for nearly 20 people, and supports significantly more through our suppliers, manufacturers etc.

Our technology enables existing businesses to expand their operations with new capabilities (creating additional employment) and by reducing the common barriers to entry for vertical farmers, encourages new entrants to establish farms with associated employment opportunities.

Participating in a growth industry (with the ever-increasing need to feed more people, more sustainably) InvertiGro supports and fuels sustainable economic growth.

Furthermore, our simplified and safe growing environments, that can be deployed almost anywhere (urban centres or remote regional communities) also lend themselves to a range of D&I employment opportunities.

8. Decent Work and Economic Growth: Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all

Through clean production processes, InvertiGro is contributing to Australia’s sustainable industrialisation, and our truly novel farming solutions and associated R&D are at the forefront of fostering Australian and global AgTech innovation.

InvertiGro's business is centred around innovation, scientific research and resourcefulness.

9. Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure: Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation

InvertiGro’s indoor vertical farming systems can be deployed almost anywhere, including highly urbanised centres and cities through to small remote towns or villages; transforming latent spaces (from disused warehouses to empty car parks and basements) or newly erected barns or buildings into highly productive spaces - generating sustainable fresh produce and inclusive employment opportunities that in-turn increase resilience through enhanced food security.

Our first commercial InvertiWall has been installed in one of Australia’s leading sustainable mixed-use (residential and commercial) property developments. Managed with assistance from the local high-school and supplying the on-site cafe with fresh ingredients, our InvertiWall is helping to promote an inclusive, connected and sustainable community, including:

1. Fostering a friendly, supportive and spirited community allowing people to socialise

and bond in a welcoming environment, that facilitates growth and sustainability.

2. Fostering relationships between people from a range of different backgrounds

together. All different ages, races, religions and social classes can come together

and connect through a shared interest and in a meaningful way.

3. Providing micro-economic opportunities eg. involvement in Farmers'/Fresh food

markets or any other stalls in Ginninderry or surrounding neighbourhoods.

4. Relieving stress and increasing wellness

5. Building a sense of community identity and spirit.

11. Sustainable Cities and Communities: Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable

Dedicated to growing more with less, InvertiGro indoor vertical farming systems produce healthy fresh produce more sustainably with less land, water and food waste, fewer food miles and packaging; and no herbicides, pesticides or harmful agricultural run-offs.

InvertiGro technology also allows farmers to produce what is needed, where and when it is needed, avoiding the seasonal supply peaks and troughs that lead to substantial food and resource wastage globally. Effectively and responsibly using only the resources needed and no more.

12 Responsible Consumption and production: Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns

InvertiGro produce is grown without the need for industrial fertilisers (a powerful contributor to climate change) and independent of the increasingly dramatic weather patterns that may be attributable to climate change (droughts, floods, fires, storms etc).

InvertiGro produce is delivered to the consumer with lower overall carbon emissions than traditional agricultural supply chains (taking into account: agricultural machinery emissions, fertiliser and food wastage along with the associated supply chain transport emissions).

Additionally, given the ability for InvertiGro’s technology to grow crops 300x more space efficiently than broad acre farming, as the Indoor Vertical Farming model is deployed, substantial amounts of existing farmland could be revegetated to help with carbon sequestration and all other related environmental benefits.

13 Climate Action: Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts

Growing without the need for industrial fertilisers, pesticides and herbicides, InvertiGro eliminates harmful traditional agricultural run-offs that often end up in our waterways, thereby helping to conserve our marine environments.

14: Life Below Water: Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development

Driven by the need to stop deforestation, erosion and biodiversity losses through agricultural sprawl, InvertiGro indoor farming utilises existing built environments and substantially less land (over 300x less) than traditional agriculture.

As the Indoor Vertical Farming model is deployed, substantial amounts of existing farmland could be revegetated to help with carbon sequestration and all other related environmental benefits.

Furthermore, InvertiGro’s controlled environment agriculture processes allow for any suitable crops to be grown without the need for genetic modification of any kind. This opens up unlimited opportunities for the increase of biodiversity in our food system.

15: Life on Land: Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss
